Endoscopic Plastic Surgery

The use of endoscopic surgery is considered what is most modern in plastic surgery. The endoscopic surgery is a surgical technique that involves the use of an endoscope, a special instrument that allows the surgeon see structures below the skin through very small incisions, through which you place a device with an optical which transmits the images to a monitor with increase up to 10 times.

The endoscopic surgery has been used for decades for various procedures in general surgery, gynecology, urology and orthopedics. However, in the plastic surgery, this technique was recently introduced. It is believed that with the development of instruments, more and more minimally invasive surgeries will be performed.

Advantages of Endoscopic Plastic Surgery

The endoscopic surgeries as well as conventional surgeries have risks and complications, however, the endoscopic allows better viewing of the structures reducing the risk of inadvertent injury, and reduce the size of surgical trauma and scars. The complications such as damage to nerves, bleeding, bruising and ecchymosis occur less frequently because there is greater precision of the cuts during surgery.

Another advantage would be the post-operative more peaceful and more rapid return to normal activities.

Indications:

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

The endoscopic surgery is indicated for patients with diastasis of the rectum abdominal muscles, or removal of these muscles generally due to pregnancies or weight gain.

Through small incisions can be made a plication of the muscles, which are made some points for surgical approachement in the central portion of the abdomen, improving the tension of the abdominal wall and contour of the waist. This technique is not indicated for patients requiring removal of excess or sagging of skin.

Breast Implant

Through small incisions in the armpits, you can put silicone prosthesis ago of the mammary gland or the pectoral muscle. The great advantage is that there are no scars in the breast, allowing patients with the trend of formation of keloid can perform the surgery without risk of harming the breasts.

Moreover, the endoscopic surgery helps in the treatment of bruising and capsular contracture, which are complications that can occur in any post-operative surgery for breast prosthesis.

Rhytidoplasty

Endoscopic surgery is mainly used in plastic surgery for treatment of wrinkles of the front (forehead), glabela (between the eyebrows) and suspension of eyebrows.

With small incisions in the previous line of hair can be made throughout the treatment of upper third of the face, avoiding the scars of traditional surgery, which was across from ear to ear length and usually associated with hair loss, stretching from the forehead and enlargement the scars.

Final considerations

It is important to remember that the endoscopic surgery is a procedure less and less invasive than the traditional surgery, but also presents risks and should be performed by a specialist in plastic surgery trained in this type of surgery. The most common complications are infection, accumulation of fluid under the skin (seroma), injuries to nerves, blood vessels and skin.

In most cases, these complications can be resolved by videoendoscopy, but there are situations where it will be necessary to perform the surgery with traditional scars more to solve the problem.

Fortunately complications are rare and occur in less than 5% of cases.
