Cleft Lip and Palate
The cleft lip and palate deformities are present at birth due to a failed merger of the lips or palates in the gestational period. The clefts can be uni or bilateral. Such changes can disrupt the development of speech, food, teeth, hearing and growth of the face.
Treatment should be conducted by a team of specialists that include plastic surgeon, pediatrician, speech therapist, dentist, psychologist and geneticist.
The surgery to correct the defect in the lip is held around 2 to 3 months of age, but since birth due to take some special care.
